In the pleasant ambience of the excellent venue of the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest, between the 14th and the 17th of October 2015, the 2015 National Conference of Surgery took place. With the generous theme of "Eso-gastro-duodenal surgical pathology", the opening speech of the Conference gathered together over 1,200 Romanian and foreign participants. The proceedings of the National Conference of Surgery provided the highest level of scientific debate, being an ideal opportunity for information, communication, sharing of personal experience and closing interesting collaborative projects leading towards new horizons. Surgery has known a rapid development in recent decades, subsequent to the progress made by medical technology. All these have led to new standards of surgical practice, which should become the norm for all surgical teams. During the National Conference, the 4th National Congress of Emergency and Trauma Surgery, the 5th National Congress of Coloproctology, the Romanian Nurses' Conference, the 2015 National Conference of the Romanian Students' Society for Surgery were also held. Over the first two days, the 12th and 13th of October 2015, Ponderas Hospital hosted the event, with a total of 10 subjects for the workshop organized under the leadership of Prof. Corneliu Dragomirescu M.D.- with more than 150 people having participated. Alongside, 11 courses for students, residents and specialists were conducted, attended by over 250 people. Also, within the Faculty of Medicine an estimated 30 participants, most of whom PhD students, attended the course "A Systematic Approach to Drafting and Publishing a Scientific Article." The course was under the direction of Prof. A. Fingerhut (France) and F. Lacaine (France). In the official opening speech of the Conference we presented "Surgery of the Future", a theme which sought to foreshadow surgery in the next 25-30 years, based on documents from various medical research centres. The National Scientific Committee selected papers for 41 sessions, over 400 e-posters, and 25 video submissions. The Congress of Emergency and Trauma Surgery was honoured by the presence of seven personalities from Austria, France and Italy, debating Clinical Guidelines in trauma, major problems in emergency surgery and trauma, and damage control. Also, The Romanian Society of Herniology was formed and an alignment to good practice guides in abdominal surgery was set. The closing ceremony of the 2015 National Conference of Surgery included the award ceremony for prizes I, II, III for oral communications and e-poster.
