In the medical literature there are more than one opinion infavour of the isoperistaltic interposed loop, considering it torender a higher propulsive activity and thus with much betterfunctionality, with less intense symptoms of regurgitation,reflux or aspiration. Technically, however, due to anatomicalrelationships, anisoperistaltic graft interposition is moreconvenient. Is this detrimental to functionality? What is thebest peristaltic model? At first sight, it seems that due to thelocal anatomy and surgical technique involved, we compromiseat the expense of better functionality. To find the answerto these questions, starting from the typical pattern of colonicmotility in the transverse and left colon, we need to identifynew motor behaviour of the isolated colic segment. Becausemotor activity is generated by electric waves discharged fromthe area control centre, their electromyographic registrationwould allow finding the contractile pattern of a transplantedloop.
